Coco August 18th

The Seattle Parks District Get Moving Fund from Seattle Parks and Recreation supports local nonprofit organizations, small businesses, and community groups in offering innovative and culturally relevant events and/or projects to increase participation in community sports, recreation and physical fitness activities that serve under-resourced communities (such as immigrant populations, people of color, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ etc.).

The goal of the Get Moving Fund is to increase participation and opportunities for physical activities, prioritizing neighborhoods and communities afflicted by health disparities.

Coco garnered a variety of awards and nominations, many of them in the Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song (for "Remember Me") categories. It was chosen by the National Board of Review as the Best Animated Film of 2017. At the 90th Academy Awards, it won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song. The film garnered two nominations at the 75th Golden Globe Awards, winning for Best Animated Feature Film. Coco also won the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film and the Critics' Choice Movie Award for both Best Animated Feature and Best Song. The film led the 45th Annie Awards with thirteen nominations, and won a record-breaking eleven awards,[7] including Best Animated Feature, Outstanding Achievement for Directing in an Animated Feature Production, Outstanding Achievement for Writing in an Animated Feature Production, and Outstanding Achievement for Voice Acting in an Animated Feature Production for Gonzalez. Producer Darla K. Anderson won Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures at the 29th Producers Guild of America Awards. The film won two Saturn Awards for Best Animated Film and Best Music. The film's visual effects were acclaimed by the Visual Effects Society, which gave the film awards in all four of its animated film categories.

The film features a variety of animated caricatures or cameo appearances of legendary Mexican celebrities, paying homage to them. Among the many deceased Mexican celebrities who are featured in the film include: Santo, a wrestler; movie actor Cantinflas; actors and singers Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete; painter Frida Kahlo; Emiliano Zapata, one of the revolutionary leaders during the Mexican Revolution; and actress María Félix. Director Lee Unkrich has stated that besides these celebrities, there are more hidden in the film.

A Wrinkle in Time August 11th

Meg Murry and her little brother, Charles Wallace, have been without their scientist father, Mr. Murry, for five years, ever since he discovered a new planet and used the concept known as a tesseract to travel there. Joined by Meg's classmate Calvin O'Keefe and guided by the three mysterious astral travelers known as Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which, the children brave a dangerous journey to a planet that possesses all of the evil in the universe.

Based on the timeless classic and filled with spectacle, warmth and heart, this celebrated film follows an ordinary girl’s epic adventure and brave journey to save her family.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi August 4th

Luke Skywalker's peaceful and solitary existence gets upended when he encounters Rey, a young woman who shows strong signs of the Force. Her desire to learn the ways of the Jedi forces Luke to make a decision that changes their lives forever. Meanwhile, Kylo Ren and General Hux lead the First Order in an all-out assault against Leia and the Resistance for supremacy of the galaxy.

Secret Life of Pets July 28th

Max is a spoiled terrier who enjoys a comfortable life in a New York building until his owner adopts Duke, a giant and unruly canine. During their walk outside, they encounter a group of ferocious alley cats and wind up in a truck that's bound for the pound. Luckily, a rebellious bunny named Snowball swoops in to save the doggy duo from captivity. In exchange, Snowball demands that Max and Duke join his gang of abandoned pets on a mission against the humans who've done them wrong.

We'll have WestSide Baby with the diaper van, so please bring packs of diapers to donate and money for the raffle.

We’re counting down the days towards the beginning of the West Seattle Outdoor Movies. Starting with Wonder Woman on July 21st and concluding with Black Panther on August 25th, we’ll be showing fun, free and family forward movies at the YMCA.

Along with this excellent line-up we also invite our nonprofit partners to join us at the movies. It’s a tradition everyone enjoys! This year, our nonprofit partners will be attending the movies, helping to procure those important raffle items, and selling raffle tickets to raise funds for their important missions.

Beauty and the Beast, Saturday August 26th

Belle (Emma Watson), a bright, beautiful and independent young woman, is taken prisoner by a beast (Dan Stevens) in its castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the beast's hideous exterior, allowing her to recognize the kind heart and soul of the true prince that hides on the inside.

Queen of Katwe Saturday, August 19th



Living in the slum of Katwe in Kampala, Uganda, is a constant struggle for 10-year-old Phiona (Madina Nalwanga) and her family. Her world changes one day when she meets Robert Katende (David Oyelowo), a missionary who teaches children how to play chess. Phiona becomes fascinated with the game and soon becomes a top player under Katende's guidance. Her success in local competitions and tournaments opens the door to a bright future and a golden chance to escape from a life of poverty.

Finding Dory Saturday, August 12th

Dory is a wide-eyed, blue tang fish who suffers from memory loss every 10 seconds or so. The one thing she can remember is that she somehow became separated from her parents as a child.


With help from her friends Nemo and Marlin, Dory embarks on an epic adventure to find them. Her journey brings her to the Marine Life Institute, a conservatory that houses diverse ocean species. Dory now knows that her family reunion will only happen if she can save mom and dad from captivity.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Saturday, August 5th


Join the West Seattle Outdoor Movies as we follow the adventures of writer Newt Scamander in New York's secret community of witches and wizards, seventy years before Harry Potter reads his book in school.


The year is 1926, and Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident, were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt's fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

There are big changes brewing in Gotham, but if Batman wants to save the city from the Joker's hostile takeover, he may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

Princess Bride August 20th Festival Street

A beloved favorite, Princess Bride, will be our final movie for the 2016 series. Join us at the West Seattle Festival Street next to the West Seattle YMCA.

We'll be raising money for the I Heart West Seattle campaign, so bring some $$ for raffle tickets. Concessions by the Log House Museum and fun festival street games. Plan on arriving at 6:30pm, movie at dusk. FREE! 

While home sick in bed, a young boy's grandfather reads him a story called The Princess Bride.

Saturday, August 13th The Lego Movie

An ordinary Lego construction worker, thought to be the prophesied 'Special', is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the Lego universe into eternal stasis.

Join us for The Lego Movie on Saturday, August 13th. This will be our final movie at the courtyard. Saturday, August 20th we'll be showing Princess Bride at the Festival Street by the West Seattle YMCA. 

We'll have live music from Jeremy Serwer, a FREE community BBQ sponsored by West Seattle Christian Church. Plus, tickets to The Art of the Brick, compliments of the Pacific Science Center.

Skyfall Saturday, August 6th

When Bond's latest assignment goes gravely wrong and agents around the world are exposed, MI6 is attacked forcing M to relocate the agency.
